Breakfast, the most important meal of the day

Candlelight..
Do you believe in posh restaurants, beautiful flowers, expensive chocolates, teddy bears and love letters during Valentines’ Day? Did you book a place to enjoy a romantic dinner and enjoyed the scenery?
For me, nothing was planned and I did not expect those either but it turned out to be an enjoyable day nonetheless.
Me and B was looking for a place to settle our dinner at 9+. Hawkers and Mcdonalds’ came into consideration as I was hungry and wanted something fast.. However, we somehow ventured into Coffee Club as it looked rather cosy.. sure enough, it was a nice environment to end Valentines’ day in..

Crusted Dory Gremolata
My choice was dory fish baked with breadcrumbs with gremolata on potatoes. Gremolata is a chopped herb condiment typically made of garlic, parsley, and lemon zest. Bits of sausages are hidden betwen the potatoes and the fish as well. (: I love this dish! The fish was tasty with sauce and the occasional breadcrumbs provided great texture contrast with the crumbly fish too.. I love dabbing bits of fish and potatoes with the sauce..

Alfredo
B’s order.. Pasta with ham and mushroom. Surprise, it’s not fish and chips!
The ambience was great and it made me feel so blissful as I can flip through magazine while relaxing on a big soft red chair, warming my cold hands with the red candles while dining and listening to love songs… and most importantly with the loveliest company.. it was lovely seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces as they sit, relax and chat..
This rounds up our simple dinner..
My phone camera failed me this time..
last saturday, me and b met up at chinatown to soak in the chinese new year atmosphere as well as to find our favourite nasi lemak store.. but it was closed..

but but but this means thatttttt I am allowed to stomach a whole dessert for myself – my favourite matcha azuki snow ice!!! it is now my offcial favourite food! the photo and colours and the taste of cold matcha-ness with the sweet and wholesome azuki beans are just perfect.. ahh..!

we bought a red bean pudding to share along our journey. b said that it is popular in hong kong. it tasted alright, mild and chewy~ but the red beans were so little and completely no match to the red beans above!

we had kueh pie ti at the hawker as well.. they look all dressed up~

I had bimbimbab at the newly renovated food junction at CCK that night. I love bimbimbabs for the lovely colours and hot stone pot! But taste wise….. hmm. The egg yolk was a nice mix in though!

after a weekend spent out, i missed home food~! that’s baked beans scrambled with eggs on toast..

and delicious papaya mixed with yogurt.
A while ago I was @ Ohsho with b.. I love this place for its atmosphere – it’s very japanesey, sometimes we can even hear people conversing in Japanese when there’re Japanese customers around..

The star of this place is the gyoza! so different from the ones in sakae sushi.
crisp and a tad chewy, translucent skin with juicy fillings of minced meat and scallions. yum yum~

b’s chicken chahan(fried rice)~ i had the pork one last time and i think it tastes better!
still good anyway~

i decided to try something new so i had tenshinhan (rice wrapped in omelette with crabsticks and soaked in gravy). it looks really salty but the gravy was really mild in taste. I still prefer chahan though~ it’s more flavourful.

anyway, photos are sooooooo deceiving! the chahan’s serving was actually HUGE but it looks so teeny in the first picture (under the gyoza photo)! I think it’s the angle and the deep bowl..
sigh this blog has been so neglected! well i finally will have a day’s break from school tomorrow..

it’s b’s birthday today! had a simple meal with him and his family @ jurong point’s kuishinbo for buffet!
jurong point is huge with the new wing! it has lots of lovely shop like artbox with all the country style books and stationary, a japanese food street which makes you feel like you’re walking in japan, an icing shop selling sweets and lets you ice cakes yourself and other fun stores~
back to topic! japanese buffet!

started off with some raw food and sushi~ I had a mango sushi which tasted really interesting~! It’s sweet and fresh, tasted very refreshing~ the sashimi were goooood. Had some pumpkin, potato and mayo salads and some duck meat to go with~

hoho then me and b officially started feasting~ on top was just an appetiser, we also had gyoza, teppanyaki, soup, takoyaki, fish, blah blah all the savoury stuff which i didnt bother to take pictures of because they look all the same and my hands werer dirty from….

crab and prawnsssssss……… which were VERY DISAPPOINTING! :/

We also had ginseng porridge which tasted too herbal and yummilicious cold tofu plus chawanmushi(super soft and silky!!)~!

as well as the very refreshing cold soba~

and finally!! it’s time for desserts! hoho i think im here more for this than the savouries! The mini cakes in front were really tiny! it’s like the size of my thumb! I wanted to try the whole dessert menu hoho~

had some more rounds of desserts not pictured – my dorayaki with red bean and pandan jelly and chocolate crisp~ sadly the desserts wasn’t fantastic. Highlights were the pandan cake which has a very unique texture – dense yet light and melty.. and the cream puffs which has yummy cream oozing out~ would be better if it’s warm though! Pandan jelly and green tea mochi were good as well.. ah plus the chocolate crisp which is bitter yet has some hint of sweetness~

ending off with green tea+vanilla ice cream with grounded peanuts and waffle~ their waffles were kind of stale.. ):
o wells! what matters is the company! ;D Happy birthday b!~!
the last of 2008 was spent sampling beancurds at short street!

That’s b with our standard set of soyabean milk, soyabean curd and you tiao(fried dough fritters) @ Rocher beancurd located along Short Street! We spent the last of 2008 and the start of 2009 in this cosy little shop along with a few supper seekers strangers of all ages. (: Lovely and peaceful with our comfort food, away from the crazy crowds in town.
Before that, we tried a similar set from Erymin beancurd which is just beside Rocher. Verdict? Rocher’s you tiao’s more crispy on the outside, ‘loose’ and fluffy on the inside, fresh and perfect for soaking up the soyamilk to create a warm and cold plus a-contrast-in-texture sensation~ and the soyamilk is just divine! (:
other stuff for dinner:

Yoshinoya’s beef bowllll~
——-
the first day of 2009 was kickstart with breakfast at the newly renovated Bedok Blk 216’s market which just open for business!
we had our favourite sweet potato porridge with serveral lovely side dishes..

not forgetting the much missed you tiao and carrot cake sticks (above) (both claimed to be the best ones in sg that b the fried food junkie had tasted)~ Both were really crissssspy on the outside!
believe it or not, we shared pratas and a soyabean drink afterwards.. which is just a waste of stomach space because they were not even fantastic enough for me to snap a picture of. :X
today…. santa came to my place and surprised me with a sock full of sugar!!!!!

tada~ my kawaii sock.. hehe..

this is my stash of sugar from b….. my favourite favourite bread with baked beans and yoghurt which i’m having for breakky tomorrow! can’t wait.. (:
just my favourite bread makes me very very happy..
thanks b for the day.. really brightened up a heavy heart..
Last week,

We

sat under a block of colourful flats and chit chatted..

ate homecooked

delicious mee with eggs and crabmeat..

and had yummilicious fruity dessert at ice monster after.
I made hakka abacus beads with mummy today!

Abacus beads is a savoury dish, and I’ve only come to like it recently. (: Mum’s version is the best, I hardly eat those outside, but anyway it’s hardly available too. Soft, QQ abacus beads with the earthy taste of yam together with dried mushrooms, shallots, garlic, shrimps, cuttlefish, tofu and minced meat fried till frangrant.. hmmmmmmm!

Packed some for him of course~

And this is the ferrero rocher he got for free which was given to me as compensation for being an hour late even though it’s not his fault. Wahahaha but never mind, the packaging is really pretty. (:
